Hiking Durika Mountain

Day 1

Transfer from the airport to the Hotel. Lodging at Balmoral Hotel or similar.

Day 2

Transfer from San José to Durika Mountain near San Isidro del General, about 4 hours from San José. Lodging at Durika Lodge.

Day 3

Transfer from Durika Lodge to Rocas Calientes to start the hike, Durika en Cabécar language means Eagle Head and in Bribri language means Mountain of Power, indigenous people are spread through out the reserve and belong to two different groups the Cabécar and the Bribri. The elevation of the mountain is 3280 meters and is located in the Talamanca Range and the La Amistad International Park Mountain Range. This biological reserve protects 7500 ha. Where 340 birds species, 50 different kind of mammals and a great number of plants and insects have been identified. Today you will be Camping on Tents.

Day 4

Hike through this breathtaking scenarios of rain, cloud and paramo forests to experience in full the beauty of it all. We recommend you to bring: long sleeve shirts, long underwear due to the low temperatures, jeans, hiking shoes, candies, chocolates, thick sleeping bag, gloves, scurf and two or three pairs of socks in case they get wet. Today you will be camping on Tents.

Day 5

Hike to the summit crossing through indigenous reservations, not very visited because of difficult of the access, in this way you will have the opportunity to get in contact with our roots. Today you will be Camping on Tents

Day 6

Hike down to the Durika Lodge passing by Rocas Calientes (Hot Rocks), this village is important because of is origin, which is a believe that due the weathering of volcanic rocks it was formed a cliff and because of the weather, it rains all the year around, the microclimate is very particular with very height trees and many birds. Lodging at Durika Lodge.

Day 7

Transfer from Durika to San José. Lodging at Balmoral Hotel or similar.

Day 8

Transfer to the airport, three hours before the departure time.
